Nasal Congestion and Household Remedies
Nasal congestion is a common occurrence, which many people find to be extremely bothersome. Here's one of the most popular household remedies you can use to treat it.
One of the best household remedies is a cold water treatment. This involves using refrigerated water (around 40 degrees) to flush out the nose, cleaning allergens and dirt, and soothing inflammation by constricting the blood vessels in the nose.
Put a bit of cold water into your hand, suck it into the nose about two inches, and allow it to come back out of the nose. You'll want to do this over a sink or a small bowl so as to catch the water and dispose of it.
Do this 2 to 5 times for each nostril and it will greatly reduce the congestion. The first few times you try, it may be difficult due to the amount of blockage in the nose. You'll want to repeat this 8 to 12 times a day when you are severely congested, and reduce to 4 to 8 times a day as the nasal congestion improves.
It will take practice to learn how to close one side of your nose and ingest the water with the other. Try not to swallow the water and let it run down the back of your throat. Generally, you'll feel better sooner by employing this treatment.
In the event that household remedies do not work for you, consider taking an over the counter medication designed to alleviate the congestion or using a vapor rub ointment to help. Be sure to get plenty of rest and relaxation until you are feeling better. If the condition worsens even still, then consult a medical professional for prescription treatment.
