Ear Ache
Ear aches are the most common form of illness treated by physicians for small children in the cities of New York and New Jersey, and it is also the most common cause of hearing loss in children. Also known as otitis media, an ear infection is caused by an infection and inflammation of the middle ear.
An ear ache is a serious disorder because it can lead to hearing loss, which may also lead to developmental issues with a child such as impaired or delayed speech. It also causes a great deal of pain. Properly and promptly cared for, otitis media can nearly always be treated and hearing can be restored to an afflicted child. A potentially serious side effect of the disease is the possibility that the infection could spread to nearby structures, particularly the mastoid.
