What is Facial Plastic Surgery?
A Facial Plastic Surgeon specializes in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of the face. Facial aesthetic and reconstructive surgery is a main subspecialty of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery. When training for board certification in otolaryngology, physicians concentrate on the complex anatomy, physiology and pathology of the face, head and neck, enabling them to become uniquely qualified to perform surgery in this region of the body.
Further intense training can be obtained by pursuing a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. A fellowship is the highest level of training a physician can obtain in a particular field of medicine.

- With time, maturation of scar tissue helps to restore strength to the operative sites.
- Touch up work may be required postoperatively.Dr. Lin will discuss this in more detail during your consultation.
- Maintaining lifelong good, healthy habits minimizes the risks associated with anesthesia.
- If you have had epidsodes of cold sores or blisters around the mouth, inform your surgeon of this condition.
- A limited amount of activity will be required for the first 2 weeks after surgery.
- No smoking 2 weeks prior and after surgery to (i) ensure optimal wound healing, and (ii) minimize the risk of infection and scarring
