Salvatore Taliercio, MD earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. His path to a medical career made a stop in upstate New York where he went on to receive his Medical Degree from Albany Medical College. His interest in Otolaryngology stemmed from his experience here, as he was introduced to laser airway surgery. He then ventured south to coastal Virginia, completing a Residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School. The intensive training received at EVMS focused on care of the hoarse patient, head and neck cancer, endoscopic sinonasal surgery, as well as common pediatric concerns such as recurrent ear infections and tonsillitis. A trip closer to home followed, and he completed a Fellowship in Laryngology at the NYU Voice Center, providing medical and surgical care for those with voice limitations, chronic cough, and difficulty swallowing.
A consultation with Dr. Taliercio will provide an in-depth explanation of the causes and contributing factors to particular voice concerns. Dr. Taliercio performs a comprehensive stroboscopic exam during each patient visit, identifying structural and dynamic abnormalities of airway and vocal cords that explain vocal limitations. Each video exam is reviewed in detail with the patient, followed by a discussion regarding the next step in management, whether medical or surgical. Additionally, he provides specialized interventions for swallowing difficulty and airway obstruction, while caring for more common ENT pathologies such as ear infections, hearing loss, pediatric snoring, and all types of head and neck lumps and bumps. He has authored numerous publications including a recent book chapter discussing the effects of respiratory papillomatosis on voice. Recent peer reviewed articles include a primer for steroid use in Laryngology, as well as a discourse of treatment methods for airway stenosis. His current research interests include correlation of stroboscopy with objective measures of voice. He is an active member of the Voice Committee for the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
He provides innovative procedural and surgical interventions in the office, as well as at Phelps Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, NY and The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. If you are interested in making an appointment with Dr. Taliercio, please call our office:
