ENT AND ALLERGY ASSOCIATES, LLP (ENTA) PRESS RELEASES:

ENT AND ALLERGY ASSOCIATES RECOGNIZES STUDENTS FOR ORIGINAL ANTI-SMOKING SONGS

Joins American Cancer Society and Mt. Sinai Medical Center to Present Awards to NY and NJ High School Students

ENTA and ACS logosWhite Plains, NY – ENT and Allergy Associates, LLP (ENTA), together with the American Cancer Society and the Mt. Sinai Medical Center, honored two high school students and their schools for their anti-smoking efforts in the form of powerful and creative original songs. The awards went to Tejan Edwards and Alexander Hamilton High School (Elmsford NY), and Augustina Mensa-Kwao and Bergen County Academies (Hackensack, NJ), and are to be presented at the Westchester County Association’s Annual Legislative Breakfast and the Bergen County REBEL Learning Institute event (sponsored by The Center For Alcohol And Drug Resources), respectively.

This is the second year that ENTA and its partners conducted a high school anti-smoking contest in conjunction with the Great American Smoke Out, in an effort to engage teens in the effort to stop smoking. This year’s song contest challenged students to musically express the dangers associated with smoking, as a way of discouraging their peers from taking up the habit. The $2,000 award (donated by ENT & Allergy to both the NY and NJ winner) is to be split between each school and its student songwriters/ performers. More than a dozen students participated by writing and performing a song—and one high school student in NJ and one in NY were selected.

The two winning songs can be viewed at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pKHyrY38dU and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV-eBIbtmPc.

No smoking icon“While no formal studies have been conducted on how this year’s financial meltdown is impacting smoking rates, stress and cigarettes have, in the past, gone hand in hand.
According to the American Cancer Society, smokers often mention stress as one of the main reasons for going back to smoking. Stress is a part of everyone's lives, smokers and non-smokers alike. The difference is that smokers have come to use nicotine to help cope with stress and unpleasant emotions. Experts say that when quitting, you have to learn new ways of handling stress. There are much healthier and more effective ways than smoking to deal with problems,” added Sue Petre, American Cancer Society.

“Our practice, unfortunately, sees far too many patients suffering the harmful effects of prolonged tobacco use,” said Dr. Wayne Eisman, President of ENT and Allergy Associates. “We are delighted to help with cessation efforts, and extremely proud of the efforts of these high school students, who combined commitment and creativity to effectively get the message out to their fellow teens”.

ENT and Allergy Associates Initiates Breakthrough Technology Resulting In Far Greater Patient Ease and Convenience

Patients will now gain advantage of securely communicating with the practice using Medfusion’s  patient-to-provider communication solutions.

December 8, 2009

Tarrytown, NYENT and Allergy Associates, LLP (ENTA), the largest and most comprehensive ENT medical practice in the country seeing 50,000 patients a month, today announced that it has selected Medfusion, the preeminent patient portal provider, to facilitate and enhance the practice’s patient-to-provider communication experience.

ENTA and Medfusion logosENTA patients will now be able to go ENTA’s website (www.entandallergy.com) and with a few clicks of a mouse take care of otherwise time consuming tasks - like filling out all paperwork prior to their visit. Being able to electronically manage appointment requests, request prescription renewals, and even receive messages from the practice in a secure HIPAA compliant environment will have an immediate and enormous impact on the physician/patient relationship.  And the fact that patients can do all of this from the comfort and convenience of their home or office is a huge benefit. But the patient benefits don’t stop there. In fact, ENTA is looking to link its patient portal system to its many hospital partners, to further facilitate the flow of patient information between physician practices and hospitals.

This move to an easy and convenient patient portal is wholly consistent with ENTA’s overall innovative commitment and track record, and will also serve to enhance the flow and transfer of patient information between and across provider networks. Medfusion’s HealthKey allows healthcare providers to have patient demographics securely saved so that the next time a patient logs on to another participating doctor’s portal, the information will already be populated.

“We’re very pleased that this technology will enable us to better communicate with our patients, more conveniently serve their needs, and get them more involved in their care management,” said Wayne Eisman, MD, President of ENTA.  “Simply stated, our patient portal will make things much easier for our patients, and nothing makes us happier.” Robert Glazer, CEO of ENTA weighed in, “Our patient portal will truly improve our efficiencies and, over time, significantly reduce operating costs for physician practices.  Between this and our Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems, we fully expect to enter a world where patients will benefit from real portability of their medical records.  In fact, we are already looking to link to our hospital partners to enable a far better flow of patient information among all healthcare providers, for the patients’ benefit…this is what the future of medicine is all about.”

Excited about the partnership with ENTA, Medfusion’s CEO, Steve Malik added, “We are thrilled to partner with the country’s largest ENT practice that also happens to be on the cutting-edge in healthcare information technology.  Our partnership with ENTA enables them to give their patients a self-service experience by interacting with the practice through the patient portal at their convenience.  Likewise, the portal enables ENTA to respond to the patient within hours, and now the patient-physician relationship has been enhanced – there isn’t any phone tag or waiting on hold for an excessive amount of time. It’s a win-win method of communication for both the patient and the practice.”

To join ENTA’s online services, patients simply go to ENTA’s website click on Create an Account, and register on the secure network by answering a few quick questions.

Over 30,000 patients join a Medfusion-hosted portal weekly to securely communicate with any of over 28,000 physicians on the Medfusion Physician Network. Patients don’t need to take time out of their day to place a call that would most likely result in long hold times or phone tag.  A patient can utilize the portal anytime of the day, from anywhere, and typically receive a response from the practice within 24-hours.

ENT and Allergy Associates, LLP expands its New Electronic Practice Management System (EMR) to 10 of its 30 office locations, and accelerates its timetable for full network completion.
July 20, 2009

Tarrytown, NY – July 20, 2009, ENT and Allergy Associates, LLP (ENTA) announced today that it has expanded the implementation of its state-of-the-art Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system to 10 of its 30 practice site locations that span New York City, Long Island, Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange Counties and northern New Jersey. All of our Westchester, Putnam, Orange County and Bronx sites are now fully operational.

EMR allows ENTA physicians to efficiently and accurately navigate through a patient encounter from start to finish. With it, the physician is able to obtain a patient’s history, reported issue, do a physical exam, perform any needed procedures, plan for a patient’s continued treatment, then store and print out all the information for easy access and transfer to other medical resources, as needed.

Dr. Wayne EismanDr. Wayne Eisman, President of ENTA, stated “As always, our Practice is first and foremost about providing superior care. We firmly believe that the availability of EMR in our offices will greatly enhance our ability to deliver on that promise, with added convenience and safety to our patient population.”

Successful implementation of EMR requires an enormous commitment of resources, expertise and infrastructure. For ENTA, this has meant a substantial investment in staff and equipment. Specifically, ENTA created an ‘EMR Swat Team’ consisting of Project Managers, Implementation Specialists, and Training Coordinators, who act in seamless coordination with ENTA’s Information Technology (IT) Department. In total, the team is responsible for developing, implementing and training the various populations requiring knowledge and expertise. As a result of this, and other initiatives, ENTA has actually increased its work force substantially over the past 12 months, in spite of the economic challenges that all of Westchester County (and the nation) has faced. In fact, the Practice now employs a non-physician staff of 234 people in Westchester County, a +10% increase vs the same period year ago (Practice-wide, ENTA has increased its non-physician staff to 528, a +12% year-to-year increase).

Robert GlazerRobert Glazer, CEO of ENTA, commented “EMR is an extensive and expensive undertaking, but well worth its costs in the long term, given the enormous benefits it provides to our Practice, the entire medical community we are a part of, and most importantly the growing patient population we serve. I fully expect that we will continue to add to the staffs of our EMR and IT departments as we continue to meet the challenges involved in further implementation. In a very real sense, EMR represents the best of all worlds…better patient care and safety, better connectivity among the medical community, and a true business opportunity. In fact, we are strongly considering decoupling the Information Technology division into a separate enterprise and offering its terrific services to physicians outside our practice.”

The 30 offices of ENT and Allergy Associates, LLP have a clinical alliance with the Mount Sinai Medical Center for the treatment of diseases of the head and neck, and a partnership with the American Cancer Society for disseminating information regarding the cessation of smoking.

ENT and Allergy Associates and Mount Sinai Give Back to the Community; Unveil Plaque Honoring Donation to Cancer Room
Tarrytown, NY – May 30, 2009

ENT and Allergy Associates, LLP (ENTA) and the Mount Sinai Medical Center (mountsinai.org) last week unveiled a plaque memorializing their $300,000 donation to the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge in Manhattan. Last Monday’s event celebrated this first-of-its-kind donation from a major health care institution and a specialty medical practice.

The Hope Lodge hearthHope Lodge is a state-of-the-art, all green facility that offers free housing to cancer patients and their caregivers while they undergo treatment in Manhattan. And, given the enormous financial burden posed by the need for patients to stay close to their treatment (which can be quite debilitating), Hope Lodge is truly a miracle, providing a ‘home away from home’ in a comfortable, healing and supportive environment.
The highly visible and elegant hearth in the Hope Lodge NYC great room, where guests find warmth and communal support, was named after ENTA and Mount Sinai in recognition of their generous contribution to the Hope Lodge NYC capital campaign.  In attendance were Dr. Wayne Eisman, President of ENTA, Dr. Eric Genden, Chairman of Mt. Sinai’s Otolaryngology Dept, Dr. Richard Stock, Chairman of Mt. Sinai’s Radiation Oncology Dept, Dr. Ken Davis, CEO of Mt. Sinai Medical Center, and many other physicians and senior officials of ENTA.

“We are thrilled that ENTA and Mount Sinai recognize the tangible service that Hope Lodge delivers to many of their patients seeking cancer treatment in New York City,” said Mady Schuman, Senior Vice President, Campaign and Leadership Giving, American Cancer Society. “The magnitude of the relationship between the American Cancer Society, a major health care institution and its referring partner is unprecedented and we are so thankful for this partnership.”

“At ENT and Allergy, our goal is to offer the best patient care possible,” said Dr. Wayne Eisman, President of ENTA. “We are completely delighted about this opportunity to expand our relationship with the American Cancer Society , give back to the community, and support the fantastic work accomplished at Hope Lodge.”

“The successful partnership between Mount Sinai and ENTA  as already benefited hundreds of cancer patients who have better lives today thanks to timely and effective treatment,” said Kenneth L. Davis, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Mount Sinai Medical Center. “We are pleased to share our success with many more Dr. Stock, Eisman and Gendencancer patients who find in Hope Lodge a home away from home on their road to recovery.”

The Mount Sinai Medical Center has a unique clinical affiliation with ENTA for the screening and treatment of patients with cancer of the head and neck. This enables patients to receive cancer care from a major medical institution on an expedited basis and then continue aftercare in the comfort of their own neighborhoods. Mount Sinai is working with the American Cancer Society to place patient navigators at the hospital to best serve the needs of newly diagnosed cancer patients.

Hope Lodge NYC is located at 132 West 32 nd Street. The eleven-floor, 77,000 square foot building was recently awarded LEED® Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Since opening its doors in November 2007, Hope Lodge NYC has served over 2,000 patients and their families.

Reservation requests for Hope Lodge NYC are made through medical treatment providers. The American Cancer Society  partners with the major cancer centers in New York City to identify patients with the greatest need for accommodations.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.
The American Cancer Society, ENT and Allergy Associates, LLP (ENTA) and Mt. Sinai Medical Center today honored a team of local high school students for their anti-smoking efforts that took shape in the form of a video. The presentation took place at the Westchester County Association`s annual legislative breakfast.

Thanks to an award donated by ENTA, Sleepy Hollow High School will receive $2,000 for the students` work. The segment appears on Sleepy Hollow Digital News, the school`s news station. The video concept takes the students inside the human body and describes the devastating effect that smoking has on a person`s health. Although the $2,000 award was to be split among the school and the students, the students decided to contribute their portion back to the school. More than a dozen students contributed to the video`s production. The video can be viewed at http://www.sleepyhollowhits.com/News_commercial.php, and at http://www.entandallergy.com/affiliations_acs_contest.

"I'm so pleased with the efforts of our local students", said Dr. Jill Zeitlin, of ENT and Allergy's Sleepy Hollow office. "Making the decision not to smoke may be the single most important thing that they can do for their health. We are proud to have created this opportunity for students to be recognized and rewarded for their work, their commitment, and their creativity."

The students of Sleepy Hollow High School are awarded a check for $2000 and an engraved award (inset) for their winning anti-smoking video at the Westchester County Association's New York State Legislator's breakfast on Friday, March 13, 2009.
