Fellowship-Trained Pediatric Otolaryngologists
At times, specialty care is needed to treat unusual pediatric cases. The following physicians completed a fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology and exclusively treat children with ear, nose, and throat problems.
Dr. Jay N. Dolitsky graduated from SUNY Downstate Medical College in Brooklyn, New York, 1984. He completed two years of residency in General Surgery at the New York University Medical Center and residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in NYC. He then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Dolitsky is member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He was selected by New York Magazine in their “Best Doctors” issue in 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2003-2007. He was also selected by Castle Connolly as on of “America’s Top Doctors” in 2003 through 2007.
Dr. Dolitsky is an Clinical Associate Professor of Otolaryngology at New York Medical College. He was the director of Medical Student Education for Otolaryngology at New York Medical College, 1992-2004 and the Director Pediatric Otolaryngology at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary from 1992-2004.
His areas of expertise include Pediatric Otolaryngology, Otitis Media (middle ear infections), Tonsil and Adenoid Disease, Neck Masses (e.g. thyroglossal duct cysts, branchial cleft cysts), Upper Airway Disorders, Sinus Disease, as well as Snoring and Sleep Apnea. He works closely with our expert Audiology staff to provide the most thorough hearing testing. His practice is limited to children ages eighteen and younger.

Dr. Michael G. Mendelsohn specializes in pediatric otolaryngology. He received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine as part of the Six-Year Accelerated Liberal Arts/ Medical Education Program. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Cohen Children's Medical Center of NY (formerly Schneider Children's Hospital). He then completed his fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at the University of Virginia. He maintains his affiliation with Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Cohen Children's Medical Center of NY. Since completing his training, he has been practicing in New York for more than 15 years.
Dr. Mendelsohn is Board Certified in Otolaryngology, Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Mendelsohn holds an academic appointment of Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He has traveled to Africa to teach and operate. He has been featured regularly in the Castle-Connolly Book of Best Doctors in the New York Metropolitan Area.
Dr. Mendelsohn's scope of practice includes ear, nose and throat disorders of children ages 0-18 years.

Dr. Stanley Yankelowitz is a graduate of the University of Capetown, South Africa. He has been practicing medicine for over twenty years. He preformed his internship at Woodstock Hospital in South Africa and went on to complete his residency at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa & University of Capetown. He completed a fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1987-1988.
Dr. Yankelowitz is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinborough in Otolaryngology and a Diplomat in Anesthesiology of Royal College of Physicians of London. He specializes in adult and pediatric ear, nose and throat, and is Fellowship-trained in Pediatric Otolaryngology. Prior to joining ENT and Allergy Associates, LLP, Dr. Yankelowitz has been in private practice for over 10 years. He has been selected as one of the Best Doctors in the New York area for 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, and one of America’s Top Doctors for 2006 and 2007.

Dr. Tamekia Wakefield graduated Cum Laude from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee and attended Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland where she was an active participant in many student organizations and committees including the admissions committee and Medical Student Society, the student government organization. She completed General Surgery Internship at Lenox Hill Hospital, and Otorhinolaryngology Residency at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. During residency Dr Wakefield achieved many academic honors and awards, such as the Resident Research Award in 2001 given by the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
After leaving residency, Dr. Wakefield spent four years serving with the United States Navy at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Her duty was served in the Department of Otolaryngology where she cared for the war-wounded and their family members and also served as the Academic Program Director for the National Capital Consortium Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Program, the Medical School Clerkship Director, as well as a member of the Society of Military Otolaryngologists. While serving, Dr. Wakefield earned the National Defense Service Medal, The Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, and The Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Her active duty ended with an honorable discharge.
Dr. Wakefield completed Pediatric Otolaryngology Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland . During fellowship Dr. Wakefield explored her interest in pediatric sleep apnea and co-authored a chapter on sleep apnea which will appear in the next edition of Cummings Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery .
Dr Wakefield specializes in pediatric otolaryngology. Her areas of interest include pediatric sleep disorders, pediatric voice disorders, and the impact of childhood obesity in the practice of pediatric otolaryngology. She is fellowship trained in the management of pediatric disorders of the ear, nose, and throat and is Board-Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery. She is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery.
