Dr. Aviv knows his stuff! Very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Made me feel comfortable about everything we went over - information and procedures.
Dr Aviv is a very thorough doctor. He is an expert in acid reflux and has a holistic approach to health. I find him very patient and also very humble. I highly recommend him to anyone that may be experiencing issues that may be related to acid reflux. or for that matter any ENT issue.
He is one of the nicest, pleasant and most knowledgeable doctors around. He never rushes me and always explains in full detail everything that is going on. He truly cares for the patient and it is extremely appreciated.
Phenomenal doctor who truly understood all my silent reflux issues. He was incredibly empathetic and so sincere in his desire to help improve my condition. He even made that unpleasant procedure where they stick a camera up your nose and into throat very tolerable.
Competent patient and compassionate
Very thorough with a well thought out gameplan.
This was my first visit with Dr. Aviv. He took all the time needed, totally explained what he was doing, analyzed my condition and gave me a limited number of things to avoid eating. I had read his book before visiting him and mentioned the wide variety of things the book says to avoid, but he told me based on his examination I am fine if I just avoid a certain limited number of foods. He also recommended a reduction in my medication. He is patient friendly and concerned. He took the time to review my long history and to discuss things with me. I expect to return to him for a follow-up.
Dr Aviv is your lucky strike. If you have spent months looking for an intelligent, razor-sharp, attentive and thorough doctor well versed not only in his field but in internal medicine and able to see your case in a wider context, he is your guy. I would not wish for a better ENT.
He took his time with me and clear all my doubts , answer all my question and he has gentil maners , i came stronger out of his office ! He came hightly recomended and i fell like i can recover now.
Dr. Aviv was an excellent physician who was calm, caring, informative and thorough. I would highly recommend him.
Minus the wait time, and they were short staffed at the front desk, everyone was very nice and professional, and Dr. Aviv was excellent. Great demeanor, makes you feel comfortable and explains things well.
He was very thorough, and the only ent to ever let me see the monitor during the exam with the tube up my nose and down my throat. He explained everything, encouraged questions, and didn't try to sell me anything. Would definitely recommend.
Too soon to tell. He was very thorough and professional, though.
Dr. Aviv is the best. He takes the time to figure out the problem and is extremely caring. I always feel very comfortable and taken care of when I am in his office. His assistant is wonderful too!
I was very pleased with Dr. Aviv. He was very informative and patient. I felt confident with his diagnosis and plan of healing me. I have had a cough for 20 years and have been to many doctors but could not seem to get the proper diagnosis and help I needed. He was quick to diagnosis me and knew exactly what was going on. I would highly recommend him.
Dr. Aviv was engaging, connecting and thoroughly professional. I had already purchased his book which is my new, healthy eating, bible. Dr. Aviv allayed any fears I had, and had important suggestions for continued health of my throat. I am inspired to stay on his recommended regimen. I am very happy to have seen him on TV and then in person.
I've been suffering with acid reflux for many years, but often misdiagnosed and treated for asthma. Recently I began experiencing burning in my throat, ears, and nostrils, and had a cough and hoarseness I couldn't control. I found out about Dr. Aviv's book, The Acid Watcher Diet, and the timing couldn't be better. I immediately schedule an appointment to see him, then followed the diet to the letter. Now, just three month later, I feel brand new, and have lost 14 pounds in the process. Yeah!!
Very personable, thoughtful, and taught me what he was seeing and connecting that to my ailment. It was a helpful part of the appointment that helps me bring a logic to my own treatment down the line.
Dr. Aviv and his staff are wonderful. His office is ran very efficient. He took the time to answer all my questions and concerns. Highly recommend!
Not only is Dr. Aviv a wonder doctor, but the book is as well. My husband has had trouble keeping his meals down for a couple of years. We went to a number of doctors and he had many procedures and then to Dr. Aviv. We live in Central Jersey so going to a New York doctor is a bit of a trip for seniors, but so well worth it. At the first visit Dr. Aviv told us about his book and gave us the diet sheet. We followed the diet through the menus and recipes in the book and within ten days my husband was able to eat in comfort. Within a month he had almost no problems with meals. Since I do the cooking in the home, it just meant that I had to alter my recipes a bit, but that was no problem. Everything was written out clearly and simply. We have gone back four times now to Dr. Aviv and it is a year and a half later and my husband rarely has problems anymore with meals. He can enjoy his food once again. We did and still do follow the expected foods that are allowed. At any rate, if you are or know someone who is a sufferer from acid indigestion, GERD, or some such issues, go to Dr. Aviv, you won't be sorry. Thank you Dr. Aviv. My husband can enjoy my cooking once more.
I've been a patient of Dr. Aviv's for a few years now and I'm so happy I found him! He's a fabulous doctor! I was doctoring with several doctors prior to seeing Dr. Aviv and no one could find out what was wrong with me. My first visit with him, he knew exactly what my issue was. Not only was he able to help me, I brought my mom to see him for a spot on her sinus that was found on an x-ray from a different doctor. He then sent my mom to a sinus specialist and I can't thank him enough. He saved my mom's life as she ended up having a large tumor growing in her sinus attaching to the skull. Dr. Aviv is extremely knowledgeable, very caring and an overall fantastic doctor!
I suffered with acid reflux and throat burn for a year until I learned about Dr. Aviv and his book, "Killing Me Gently from Inside." The book is excellent. I am much improved. Dr. Aviv is a lovely person, extremely knowledgeable, and very caring in my experience. I feel so fortunate to have found out about him. If you suffer from acid reflux and follow his recommended diet, you will get better.
Excellent doctor, I was pleased with his professional attitude and his kindness. I would definitely come visit again
Dr. Aviv is the most amazing health professional I've seen for care in the last 3 to 5 years. He was thorough in getting to the root of my issues and gave me advice and care that were effective. He boosted my confidence about recovering, and gave me information as to the cause of my ailments in the first place, then prescribed the road to my recovery which started with changing the bad habits that created my problems in the first place. He gets my top recommendation in all areas. I was there, I dealt with him myself. He's the man!
I will be eternally grateful to Dr. Aviv for getting me back on the road to a normal life! For a couple of years I had increasingly worse problems with coughing and throat-clearing which frequently left me unable to speak until I had rather violently gotten it to clear. Then my voice worsened to the point that people could not hear me on the phone or in person. Needless to say this was having a major impact on my life! I went to my ENT .He did a scope, told me I had LPR (of which I had never heard and which floored me, as I never experienced heartburn and in no way associated my throat symptoms with my stomach!), and said he did not believe in using medicine for this problem. Instead, he advised me to avoid the "4C's" (carbonation, caffeine, citrus, and cocktails), stop eating three hours before going to sleep, and raise the head of my bed. I did as he suggested but my voice problem worsened. After much research I saw Dr. Aviv. He knew even before scoping that there was something more amiss with my voice. He showed me the film of the scope to demonstrate that a had partial paresis of the left vocal cord in addition to the LPR and recommended I see a voice therapist as well as following carefully the LPR guidelines in his book which I already owned. He spent a good amount of time with me, answering the long list of questions I had brought very patiently. Thanks to the voice therapy and his guidelines I am now speaking just as I had before. My reflux symptoms are much better and I cannot thank him enough!
I saw Dr. Aviv on June 13, 2014. I have suffered from acid reflux for years. I traveled from Texas to NYC to see Dr. Aviv, who was a godsend. He was patient and informative, answering all my questions. He paid careful attention to my symptoms and explained his procedures and analysis thoroughly. He did the Laryngoscopy Fibertop w/Stroboscopy to evaluate my larynx, and then made useful recommendations for a treatment plan and referrals to other specialists. Because of his diagnosis and treatment, I made more progress in one office visit than I had made in several years of visiting other physicians.
Dr. Aviv is an exceptional doctor. He not only concerns himself with his patient's ear, nose and throat problems, he takes the time to concern himself about their other health problems. I OWE MY LIFE TO DR, AVIV. When he heard that my cardiologist and internist were not taking my breathing problems seriously, he became irate. As a result, I went to another internist. She ordered an ambulance. A catheterization of my heart was done at the hospital . It revealed that I had severe aortal stenosis, and I was operated on days later.
If you have complex or unusual ENT symtoms, you may want to see Jonathan Aviv, MD. Dr. Aviv is both a first-rate doctor and a medical researcher whose thoroughness and expertise far exceeds any ENT clinician I have met. Dr. Aviv diagnosed the causes of a chronic cough I've had for 25 years. He explained the reasons for my symptoms, showed me documentation of this rare ailment in a medical journal, outlined a complex but do-able treatment plan, emailed several other top-rated physicians on my behalf, and sent prescriptions to my pharmacy - all in less than forty minutes. I am also grateful to the cheerful and efficient staff at ENT and Allergy Associates, and impressed by the state-of-the-art facilities there.
Dr. Aviv is highly professional, caring, and competent. He took his time listening to my concerns and answering all my questions. He also evaluated the test results that I had brought with me from other doctors, and provided me with a strong referral that was very helpful to me. He is known for FEESST, a testing technology he invented which evaluates swallowing and other throat functions. He ran this procedure, and diagnosed my problem right away. I am very impressed and happy to have found him.
I had been struggling with coughing attacks for over 5 years. I had visited numerous doctors, including ENTs, Allergists and others, trying to determine what was causing my cough. I was told that Dr. Aviv was one of the top doctors in his field in the country - He did not disappoint. Within 20 minutes of discussing my situation and running a battery of tests he was able to do what no other doctor in 5 years had been able to do, he pinpointed the cause of my coughing and set me on a course to treat it. My only regret is that I didn't go see him earlier.
For eight years my husband had increasingly severe neurological symptoms: drooping eyelids, blepherospasm, double vision, inability to chew or swallow, inability to speak. Finally he reached the stage at which I could no longer understand him and all he was eating was mush and choking on that constantly. All this time we had been going to the top neurologists at Col. Presb. Hospital and Mt. Sinai. None of them helped him in the slightest. Not one recognized anything. Finally, in April 2012, our GP sent him to Dr. Aviv who recognized my husband's condition on the very first visit. It is an autoimmune condition called myasthenia gravis. He had all the classic symptoms but all the neurologists didn't see them for 8 years! Dr. Aviv saved my husband's life! Now, a year later, my husband is on medication and has his life back. Thank you Dr. Aviv.
In 1999 I began feeling a great deal of pain in my throat. I visited five otolaryngologists over a period of about six years. The pain continued to be severe. To the point of being sent to a doctor specializing in pain. I began with 3 pills everyday Over a period of three weeks I was up to seven pills a day. Nothing helped. In desperation I checked Connolly's "Best Doctors." The credentials and hospital association of Dr. Jonathan Aviv came to my attention. I took the first available appointment. After checking x-rays and etc he showed me a section of my throat that appeared to be two lips that should come together which did not. He arranged a procedure that took place at Columbia Hospital in which Dr. Aviv inserted a needle in my neck injecting "something" (do not know what was used) into the "lip" in my throat that was narrower to inflate it so it could meet the other. The pain was gone almost instantly but I refused to believe it would not come back. I did not want to be disappointed. When I woke up the following morning and there was no pain I realized Dr. Aviv changed my life in a way you could never imagine. Over the years I have had other problems with my voice and swallowing which Dr. Aviv very successfully helped me. It is an amazing feeling of security when you completely trust your Doctor.
I was suffering for years from a constant cough, post nasal drip that lasted for months at a time. My medical doctor suggested probably an allergy but would not send me to a specialist. I then saw an episode of Dr.OZ "The Silent Killer: America's Fastest Growing Cancer" and many of the symptoms discussed where exactly what I had. I decided to take my health into my own hands and make appointment with allergist and ENT. Little did I know the ENT specialist turned out to be none other than Dr. Aviv who was actually on the Dr. Oz show. I was diagnosed with reflux and also with an allergy. Since I started with Dr. Aviv I have been cough free. Everyone notices that I no longer cough all day, every day. I am thrilled with my results and would recommend Dr. Aviv to everyone.
I told my Pulmonologist, Dr Cappell, that I could not swallow a steak. She told me to see Dr. Aviv and get his “FEESST” test, which evaluates swallowing. I saw Dr. Aviv, had the test and the results were bad. My throat entrance and passage were swollen on both sides thereby restricting the amount of food I could swallow. Aviv prescribed Prilosec/Omeprazole twice a day, reading a book “Dropping Acid”, and a Barium swallow test which I had. The test revealed a stricture in my esophagus. Dr. Aviv contacted Dr. Lambroza and I had an immediate endoscopy. My esophagus was a disaster and the opening to my stomach had shrunk to 10-12 mm from the norm 15-20mm. Dr. Lambroza told me to change my eating habits, take the drugs and get another endoscopy in 6 weeks. I changed my eating habits, took Omeprazole and felt better eating. My second endoscopy’s result was considerably better and the opening to my stomach had returned to a normal range. Two months later – the problems have not reoccurred.
Trans Nasal Esophogoscopy is truly amazing. Dr. Aviv's expertise with it makes an otherwise difficult process so easy. It literally took 6 minutes and I watched! With esophageal cancer on the rise this should be part of everyone's work up. Dr. Aviv a pioneer in the field is the go-to person in the City. Why not go to the person who wrote the book? Watch the YouTube video as he did it on The Dr. Oz Show.
We can hardly express our gratitude to Dr. Jonathan Aviv, a specialist in tongue and throat disorders. After 8 years of going to 5 of the top neurologists in New York City and another at the Cleveland Clinic, we finally found Dr. Aviv who recognized my husband's symptoms (he has myasthenia gravis). Not a single one of the neurologists figured out anything, even though my husband displays all the classic symptoms. After 8 years,Doctor Aviv has restored our faith in doctors.
My father suffers from shortness of breath and chronic cough. We literally saw 5 different specialists over the past year and none could offer any real help. Within 2 minutes of seeing Dr. Aviv, he had diagnosed my father as having LPR and a paralyzed vocal cord and put him on a special reflux diet. For the first time in a year, we felt as though we were on the way towards a partial cure. Dr. Aviv was touted as a world-class specialist and we can certainly understand why. Highly recommended - especially for difficult to diagnose cases.
