About Eric Bergson, MD
Dr. Eric Bergson has been practicing Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery on Long Island for 18 years. A Suffolk County native, he earned his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed his general surgery internship at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, followed by a residency in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY. During his training, he developed a particular interest in thyroid and parathyroid disorders, studying under some of the busiest endocrine surgeons in the country.
Since completing his residency in 2004, Dr. Bergson has returned to Suffolk County to serve his local community. His practice is dedicated to head and neck surgery, with a particular focus on thyroid and parathyroid surgery, as well as the surgical management of salivary gland disorders, lymph nodes, and other masses, cysts, and growths of the head and neck. He treats both benign and malignant conditions and has published extensively on thyroid and parathyroid surgery.
Dr. Bergson utilizes the most advanced surgical technologies available, including intraoperative recurrent laryngeal nerve monitoring, intraoperative parathyroid hormone (PTH) measurement, and Fluobeam parathyroid autofluorescence imaging to enhance surgical precision and patient outcomes.
He is board-certified and actively involved in several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, and the American Thyroid Association.
Notably, The American Board of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (ABOHNS) and the American Board of Surgery (ABS) have partnered to create a Focused Practice Designation (FPD) in Adult Complex Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery—recognizing surgeons like Dr. Bergson who have dedicated their careers to the comprehensive care of patients with complex thyroid and parathyroid conditions.
Outside of his clinical work, Dr. Bergson lives in Suffolk County with his wife and three daughters. He enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, biking, and skiing, and is an avid fan of live music.
