Local Students Recognized For Anti-Smoking Song In New York and New Jersey ENT and Allergy Associates once again teams up with American Cancer Society and Mt. Sinai Medical Center Present to award high school students

Tarrytown, NY –ENT and Allergy Associates, LLP (ENTA) The American Cancer Society and Mt. Sinai Medical Center honored two high school students for their anti-smoking efforts in recent ceremonies in New York and New Jersey. The awards were presented to Tejan Edwards and Alexander Hamilton High School (Elmsford NY), and Augustina Mensa-Kwao and Bergen County Academies (Hackensack, NJ) for winning original songs the students created to convince their peers to stop smoking. Presentations were made at the Westchester County Association’s Annual Legislative Breakfast and the Bergen County REBEL Learning Institute event (sponsored by The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources).

This marks the second year that ENTA and its partners conducted a high school anti-smoking contest in conjunction with the Great American Smoke Out (GASO), as a means of engaging teens in the effort to stop smoking. This year students were challenged to musically express the dangers associated with smoking and encourage them to stay smoke-free. Over a dozen students from various high schools submitted songs, from which the winners were chosen. The $2,000 award (donated by ENT & Allergy Associates, LLP) was split between school and the winning student songwriter.

The winning songs' videos can be found on the ENTA website, as well as on YouTube here, as well as here.

"I'm so pleased with the efforts of our local students”, said Dr. Wayne Eisman, President of ENT and Allergy Associates. “Making the decision not to smoke may be the single most important thing that they can do for their health. And helping to positively influence peers is the most important thing they can do for their community’s health. We congratulate them and are proud to have created this opportunity for students to be recognized and rewarded for their work, their commitment, and their creativity."
