ENT and Allergy Associates®/ North Shore-LIJ Team Up for the Kids
Long Island’s Premier Ear, Nose and Throat Group and Premier Health Care System Join Forces and Form Unique and Valuable Pediatric Affiliation
Tarrytown, NY: November 10th, 2015—Approximately three million people live in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Of those, roughly 24% are children under 18 years of age. That translates to around 750,000 noses, 750,000 throats, and 1,500,000 ears.
So it is not surprising that ENT and Allergy Associates (ENTA)-the preeminent otolaryngology, allergy and audiology practice in the tri-state area-has nine of its 41 state-of-the-art offices, 40 of its 170+ board certified physicians, and 27 of its 94 licensed audiologists located in those two robust and important counties, offering children and their families the expert care they need and deserve.
And it’s also not surprising that ENTA—which always goes the extra step to ensure its patients receive the finest medical attention possible—announced today that it has signed an agreement to form a ‘first on Long Island’ clinical affiliation with the North Shore-LIJ Health System, which is changing its name in January to Northwell Health. This teaming will provide a seamless and patient friendly bridge between community based and academically based medical care, and in doing so ensure the most comprehensive solution for those needing everything from primary to tertiary pediatric ENT care. The agreement also includes plans to jointly pursue clinical research initiatives centered within a wide range of relevant areas of expertise.
The ENTA/North Shore-LIJ affiliation means that pediatric patients can begin their care in the comfort and familiarity of their neighborhood doctor’s office, be easily transferred—if needed—to North Shore-LIJ facilities for complex issues, and then return for aftercare treatment back in their own communities. The timing could not be better, given that the state’s largest integrated health system recently opened a significant addition to its Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park, including a new state-of-the-art, pediatric emergency department.
“We have long been aware of ENT and Allergy’s growing presence in so many of the Long Island communities we serve,” said Peter Costantino, MD, Executive Director and Senior Vice President of the Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Services for the North Shore-LIJ Health System, “and are extremely gratified that we have been able to form an alliance with them that holds such promise”.
Added Andrea Vambutas, MD, Chair of Otolaryngology- at North Shore University Hospital and LIJ Medical Center, “Creating a seamless patient pathway between the superb pediatric clinicians of ENTA and our team of extraordinary head and neck surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, and other medical professionals, will truly result in an unparalleled resource to help those in need”.
Lee Smith, MD, Chief of the Division of Pediatric Otolaryngology at Cohen Children's Medical Center, noted, “Teaming up with ENT and Allergy Associates and being able to offer the kids of our communities such a uniquely beneficial path to the finest treatment at every stage is extremely gratifying. I can’t imagine a better way to practice medicine.”
“Our ability to simply pick up the phone or click a button on our Electronic Health Records system and almost instantly transfer a pediatric patient in need from our office to North Shore LIJ will be spectacular,” observed Michael Mendelsohn, MD, fellowship-trained pediatric otolaryngologist partner at ENTA’s Garden City office. Added Todd Schaeffer, MD, otolaryngology partner at ENTA’s Lake Success office, Associate Chair of Otolaryngology and Communicative Disorders at North Shore University Hospital. “Our young patients deserve every possible medical resource available to them, and this affiliation both expands and accelerates what we can offer them. This is a true win, win, win!”
Richard Litman, MD, otolaryngology partner at ENTA’s Port Jefferson and East Patchogue offices, commented, “Having a special relationship with a medical care organization with the resources, facilities, and expertise of North Shore-LIJ is exactly what I want to be able to offer my young patients…and now I can”. This thought was echoed by Kevin Braat, MD, otolaryngology partner at ENTA’s Southampton and Riverhead offices: “There is simply no finer academic medical care provided on Long Island than that offered by NSLIJ. I welcome this affiliation wholeheartedly.”
Added Robert Glazer, CEO of ENTA, “We have long recognized the benefits to our patients that an affiliation like this will yield, and have been working to finalize an agreement with NSLIJ. I am thrilled to now be able to announce its completion”.
Robert Green MD, President of ENTA, summed it up as follows: “The impact that North Shore-LIJ has had on healthcare in Nassau, Suffolk, and Queens Counties is absolutely tremendous. The North Shore-LIJ Health System is a truly unique and highly effective multi-location model for hospital care, and we at ENTA are thrilled to have finalized an arrangement that allows our patients to fully and quickly avail themselves of it. Today is a banner day for the children of Long Island”.
ENTA currently has clinical sites located in Garden City, Lake Success, Riverhead, Southampton, Port Jefferson, Patchogue, Bay Shore, Smithtown and will soon be adding a location in Hauppauge.
In addition to Cohen Children’s Medical Center, North Shore-LIJ has hospitals located in Valley Stream, Glen Cove, Huntington, Manhasset, New Hyde Park, Plainview, Syosset, Bay Shore and Riverhead.
