ENT and Allergy Associates®, LLP Raises it's Voice on Long Island Adds Laryngologist Joel E. Portnoy, MD to its Voice and Swallowing Center

01/03/2012 in press release

Tarrytown, NY---ENT and Allergy Associates (ENTA), the most dynamic and comprehensive ear, nose, throat, allergy and audiology practice in the nation, continually recruits physicians who add value to the overall care it provides to its many patients.

And now, it welcomes Dr. Joel E. Portnoy, a board-eligible head and neck surgeon and fellowship trained laryngologist. Dr. Portnoy, who joins ENTA’s Lake Success (Nassau County) and Riverhead (Suffolk County) offices starting August 1st, is a graduate of the SUNY system's Upstate Medical University.  He then completed his clinical specialty fellowship at Drexel University College of Medicine, under the guidance of Robert T. Sataloff, M.D., DMA, FACS.

"Dr. Portnoy is the first of several new specialists and sub-specialists who will be joining the Practice in 2012", noted Robert Glazer, CEO of ENTA. “We actively seek the best and the brightest, to bring even further breadth and depth of expertise to the entirety of our patient population. Joel E. Portnoy expands our presence on Long Island in the best way possible".

In Lake Success Portnoy joins otolaryngologists B. Todd Schaffer MD, Moshe Ephrat MD, and Ron Mitzner MD, and Allergist/Immunologist Brian Safier, MD.  In Riverhead, Dr. Portnoy will work side-by-side with otolaryngologists Kevin Braat MD, Paul Davey MD, Paul Kelly MD and Eric Scarbrough MD, and Allergist/Immunologist Erin McGintee. From this dual vantage point, Dr. Portnoy will be able to serve the needs of patients from the five boroughs of NYC all the way to Montauk Point.

Dr. Portnoy will become one of five specially trained members of The Voice and Swallowing Center™, the division of ENTA that evaluates and treats voice and swallowing disorders, and offers in-office screening for Acid Reflux Disease, Laryngeal and Esophageal Cancer among other conditions, all through the use of minimally invasive state-of-the-art equipment.

Commented Dr. Jonathan Aviv, Director of the Voice & Swallowing Center, “Our Practice, as well as our Division, is delighted to welcome a physician of Dr. Portnoy’s advanced training and qualifications.  It allows our commitment to serving patients’ needs that much more expansive, and tangible.”

Earlier this year, ENTA signed a brand new 10 year lease for its Lake Success location-at its current clinical office address 3003 New Hyde Park Road-and announced plans to enlarge its world class practice by adding examination rooms, allergy treatment facilities and audiology booths.

Dr. Portnoy, whose primary focus is the treatment of the professional voice, has conducted research and presented to peers/colleagues throughout his career.  And, like all ENTA physicians, he brings many clinical and academic accolades to the table.

B. Todd Schaeffer, M.D. of ENTA’s Lake Success office stated “Dr. Portnoy is a superb physician who is committed to providing the best care to his patients, and that is what we at ENTA are all about.”

“This is a great opportunity for us,” added Kevin Braat, M.D. of the Practice’s Suffolk County locations. “Our community will be better served with the arrival of Joel E. Portnoy.”
