Contest Encourages Local High School Students to Create Anti-Smoking Print Ad

White Plains, NY – The American Cancer Society and ENT and Allergy Associates, LLP (ENTA) are once again teaming up to bring a strong and relevant anti-smoking message to teens and ENTA patients through a strategic partnership that includes outreach to local high schools and patient education.

"The Great American Smokeout is the perfect time to talk about the dangers of smoking and ENTA is a great partner to help us get the word out to both adults and youth," said Susan Petre, American Cancer Society, Regional Vice President. "Qutting is not easy and it doesn't have to be tackled alone.  Resources available through the American Cancer Society and ENTA are there to help make a quit attempt successful."

Dr. Wayne Eisman, President of ENT and Allergy added, “We are delighted to do everything we possibly can to help the ACS fight the poison of smoking, particularly among the youth of our communities.”

A key part of the alliance is ENTA’s support of the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout, held on Thursday, November 18th.  Throughout the month of November, ENTA will offer patients materials on how to quit smoking in its 35 offices throughout the Greater New York and New Jersey area.  Also, several ENTA doctors, along with ACS staff will speak at local high schools to teens about the dangers of smoking, how to deal with peer pressure, and how the tobacco industry targets its advertising to teens.

The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early, helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis, by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery, and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.
