Allergist/Immunologist, Dr. Erin McGintee, who practices out of our ENT & Allergy Associates - Southampton office, was recently featured News 12 Long Island.
In this feature, Dr. McGintee discusses alpha-gal syndrome, an emerging and potentially serious allergy triggered by tick bites, alongside a patient impacted by the condition.
As highlighted in the segment, alpha-gal syndrome can cause reactions ranging from mild symptoms to severe, life-threatening anaphylaxis, often occurring hours after consuming red meat. With tick season ramping up, awareness and prevention are especially important, particularly in areas with high deer populations. Dr. McGintee also emphasizes simple but critical precautions, including using tick-specific repellents and routinely checking for ticks after spending time outdoors.
