ENT and Allergy Associates Physician Named Chair of Yale Alumni Fund!

Yonkers, N.Y. (August 28, 2018) – Yale University’s Yale Alumni Fund recently appointed an ENT and Allergy Associates LLP (ENTA) physician as chair of its board of directors.

Michael B. Tom, M.D., F.A.C.S., is the latest Yale alumnus (’83) to serve as board chair. An ENTA physician since 1993, Tom specializes in nasal and sinus surgery, with expertise in endoscopic sinus surgery.He is board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngolgy and is a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngolgy-Head and Neck Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. Beyond his work at ENTA’s Yonkers office, Tom is chief of otolaryngology at St. John’s Riverside Hospital and is also on the medical staff at White Plains Hospital Center, New York Presbyterian-Lawrence Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, Montefiore-New Rochelle Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital.

Tom is a California native who received his undergraduate degree with summa cum laude distinction from the University of Southern California. He graduated from the Yale School of Medicine and received the Upjohn Achievement Award for his contributions to student affairs. He completed two years of surgery residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, and completed his residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Southern California, including pediatric training at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and otology training with the House Ear Clinic.

During his two-year term (ending June 30, 2020) as Yale Alumni Fund board chair, Tom will lead more than 2,300 Alumni Fund volunteers and be the voice of the Fund for all alumni, working with Fund staff to set the framework for fundraising priorities. Tom has a long history of volunteer service to both Yale School of Medicine and the Yale Alumni Fund, including the previous service as board of directors vice chair and member. He also received the Yale Alumni Fund Chairman’s Award in 2007.

“Michael brings a unique perspective to all of his involvements with the Alumni Fund, given his background in medicine,” said Jocelyn Kane, managing director, Yale Alumni Fund. “He is the first chair to have a medical degree from Yale and is committed to seeing strong ties among Alumni Fund volunteers from the college, graduate school and professional schools.
