Bone-anchored hearing aids offer hearing rehabilitation for individuals with single-sided deafness or conductive hearing loss who are unable to use traditional hearing aids (chronic mastoiditis, otitis externa, or atresia/microtia). Unlike cochlear implants, at least one cochlea must have relatively intact nerve function for these devices to work well.
These devices transmit amplified sound energy through the bone of the skull directly to the cochlea, bypassing the tympanic membrane and ossicles. As a result, patients generally report excellent clarity with these devices.
Bone-anchored hearing aids are placed as an outpatient procedure, under either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. The surgery usually takes less than an hour. The discomfort is usually minimal, and the risks of the procedure are quite low. However, patients considering the procedure should discuss the details further with their physician.

"I love everything about the practice. Doctors are kind, knowledgeable, thorough and listen! I’d recommend for sure. My only complaint is waiting an hour to be seen every time, even when we’re the only ones in the waiting room."

"Dr. Axelrod is one of the best doctors I have met over the years! She explains everything clearly in great details. She is also very supportive and always there when you need her! She really impressed me with her professionalism, communication skills, and above all her ability to allow me to take part in the decision-making process. I definitely strongly recommend her!"

"Dr. Horowitz is a fantastic doctor and I’d highly recommend him. I had been to 2 other doctors and an urgent care for trouble I was having and they all brushed my problem off. Dr. Horowitz assured me that I was indeed experiencing a real problem and helped me deal with it right away. I started feeling better and in less pain within a day thanks to the treatment plan he created for me. Everyone at the office is kind, professional, and timely. I highly recommend this facility and Dr. Horowitz!!"
