Voice Disorders

Experience Clear & Effective Communication Again

If you are struggling with a voice disorder, you know how difficult it can be to communicate and express yourself. As we keep finding ways to vocalize our thoughts and feelings, having an impediment like a voice disorder can make the process more challenging. However, understanding the underlying cause of your condition and exploring different treatment options for managing symptoms can be incredibly empowering as well as inspiring.

What Is a Voice Disorder?

The American Speech, Language and Hearing Association identifies voice problems as any abnormality in pitch, loudness, or quality that distracts from what you're saying. You may also experience physical pain, discomfort, or fatigue while speaking. From mild laryngitis to serious illnesses, voice disorders come in all forms and may require extensive treatment. Watch out for symptoms, such as hoarseness or voice changes, that persist for more than two weeks and seek medical evaluation.

Patient Stories

  • "Dr Galowitz is AMAZING! I went to her with a nut allergy and seasonal pollen allergies. I went to two other allergists before her and she was able to fix all my allergies. She ran some tests and found out that I am no longer allergic to most nuts. My other two doctors missed that. I can now eat peanuts and most tree nuts with no hesitation. She also recommended allergy shots for my seasonal allergies, which I was hesitant at first, but I’ve been on shots for two years now and haven’t looked back. For the remaining allergies I do have, they are extremely well managed by Dr. Galowitz’s care. My quality of life has significantly increased ever since I’ve seen Dr. Galowitz. I recommend everyone with allergies to go to her. Additionally, the nurses (especially Lisette and Nicky) are phenomenal. They are so fun to talk to and they ease all of my anxiety when I walk into the office. They are well trained and they know what to do. I do understand that sometimes the wait can be long and ..."

  • "Dr Edelman is a good doctor, who is very thorough. We discussed all of my symptoms before the exam, of which there were many. He found severe reflux changes of my larynx and inflammation of my vocal cords, due to prolonged acid reflux. He immediately started me on a strict diet regimen, proton pump inhibitors twice daily, in addition to a tablespoon of liquid antacid half hour before bed, and sleeping with a 6wedge to prevent lying flat. He made sure I understood the importance of following the detailed instructions and the follow-up visit in 8 weeks. I did/do, and I'm looking forward to seeing him again in a few weeks."
