Speech Language Pathology

For Voice and Upper Airway Issues

Find A Specialist

Clear communication is key in today's world and we all know that first impressions matter.  From the clarity of a phone greeting to the confidence conveyed through the message. Our voices also change as we age and when people around us have more difficulty communicating with us, it can become frustrating and fatiguing.

ENT & Allergy Associates provides targeted training for voice issues for teens and older by our specially-trained Speech-Language Pathologists. They are also trained in methods to help reduce chronic cough and other upper airway issues.

Those working in certain high-volume speaking professions are especially prone to voice issues:

  • Customer service representatives
  • Lawyers
  • Actors
  • Coaches
  • Teachers
  • Religious leaders

Getting Started

Ready to get started? At ENT & Allergy Associates, a thorough evaluation of the larynx or “voice box” will be done during the first visit with your ENT. The ENT may then refer you to one of our specialized Speech Pathologists (Queens, Long Island, and Mount Laurel, NJ locations are currently available). A full voice evaluation will then be done, followed by weekly therapy sessions, tailored to your needs.

Contact your local ENT for an initial evaluation and to see if you are a candidate for voice therapy.

The time it takes to see results will vary depending on what is being addressed. For chronic cough and breathing retraining, some people notice changes after only 1-2 sessions. With voice therapy, it may take 8-10 sessions. Regular home practice along with regular attendance to sessions is imperative to making changes.

Patient Stories

  • "Great place and friendly staff. The technicians are knowledgeable and professional - always remembering what my son prefers wrt his allergy shots. It’s been over three years that we have been coming into the office. My only quip is that the early AM appts move slightly slower than the late afternoon appts. Given that I need to get my son to school immediately after the AM appts- recently, I have found it slightly more challenging to do so."

  • "My experience with Dr. Yao was GREAT. I had previously been to this location where I saw another doctor. The care, attention to detail, the interest in my previous medical history to help figure out how to best address the issue I came in for was top notch from Dr. Yao and a complete different experience from the other doctor I had saw there only 4 days prior. I think that is so important to point out, feeling comfortable and that your doctor is actually listening to understand and help, and not just get the next patient in the room. Not 5 stars mainly because some of the receptionist or lackadaisical and unprofessional. But luckily, the doctors audiologist and medical assistance who have my care in their hand make up for that."

  • "I was seen shortly after arriving and the doctor took care of my problem. Staff were friendly and helpful."
